Without becoming attuned to an item that requires attunement, a creature gains only its nonmagical benefits, unless its description states otherwise. If the prerequisite is to be a spellcaster, a creature qualifies if it can cast at least one spell using its traits or features, not using a magic item or the like. The Devil Arms' strength correlates to the total number of enemies a character has defeated in battle throughout the course of the game. However, their strength is entirely dependant on how attentive the player has been when it comes to fighting lots of enemies on the battlefield.
